Ein strahlend blauer Himmel und Basishöhen bis 2800 Meter boten perfekte Bedingungen für einen schnellen 72-Kilometer-Task. In einem von Taktik und Ridge-Racing geprägten Rennen glänzten die Schweizer mit gleich drei Piloten in den Top 15, während Gin 2 die Gesamtführung verteidigte.

Spektakulärer Start und die Mont Lachat-Rakete
Ein weiterer guter und sehr schneller Tag in Le Grand-Bornand! Wir hatten heute einen 72 km langen Task mit einer thermischen Basis auf 2800 Metern, einem fast komplett blauen Himmel und kaum Wind. Fast alle Piloten nahmen den Start an der hohen Ridge nördlich des Startplatzes am optimierten Punkt, von wo aus die Aussicht auf den Mont Blanc einfach spektakulär war. Der erste Schenkel nach Westen führte wie üblich über den Mont Lachat. Das Ziel hierbei: hoch genug ankommen, um die "Raketen-Thermik" zu erwischen.

Ridge-Racing an der Aravis-Kette
Nachdem wir den Wendepunkt Richtung Annecy geholt hatten, flogen wir auf einer nördlicheren Ridge zurück zum Start. Das war eigentlich nicht zwingend schneller, aber wenn Baptiste sich für eine Option entscheidet, ist es meistens keine schlechte Strategie, ihm zu folgen! Danach schickte uns der nächste Schenkel nach Süden an die Aravis-Kette. Es gab verschiedene Optionen, wo man in die Aravis einsteigen wollte, da die optimierte Linie etwas vorgelagert war. Am Ende machte es keinen grossen Unterschied, da die Haupt-Ridge bereits hervorragend funktionierte und es uns erlaubte, die Höhe auch etwas unterhalb des Grats problemlos zu halten. Es folgten ein paar Kreise zum Höhentanken und ein rasantes Ridge-Racing wenige hundert Meter unterhalb der Bergspitzen.

Entscheidung vor dem Goal und Schweizer Spitzenplätze
Die beiden Führenden, Baptiste und Luke, flogen weiter oben, konnten sich dort aber nicht lange halten. Wichtig war vor allem, den letzten Wendepunkt hoch genug zu nehmen, um auf der optimierten Linie zu bleiben. Wer hier zu tief war, musste einen Umweg weiter nach Süden in Kauf nehmen, bevor es gegen den Wind ins Ziel ging.

Insgesamt war es ein ziemlich einfacher, aber extrem schneller Task mit angenehmen Flugbedingungen. Allerdings ist es an solchen Tagen extrem schwer, einen kleinen Fehler wieder aufzuholen, da es kaum alternative Routen-Optionen gibt. Ridge-Racing gewinnt am Ende immer! In der Rangliste zeigten sich die Schweizer Piloten bärenstark in den vorderen Rängen: Frédéric Monnet (9.), Gaëtan Gerber (11.) und Pascal Blum (14.) platzierten sich allesamt in den Top 15!

SRS Le Grand-Bornand 2026 - Manche 4 : Haute vitesse au Mont Lachat et top résultats suisses

Un ciel bleu azur et des plafonds à 2800 mètres ont offert des conditions parfaites pour une manche rapide de 72 kilomètres. Dans une course marquée par la tactique et le vol de crête, les Suisses ont brillé avec trois pilotes dans le top 15, tandis que Gin 2 a défendu sa première place au classement général.

Un départ spectaculaire et la fusée du Mont Lachat
Encore une bonne et rapide journée au Grand-Bornand ! Nous avions aujourd'hui une manche de 72 km avec un plafond thermique à 2800 m, un ciel presque entièrement bleu et quasiment pas de vent. Presque tout le monde a pris le départ sur la haute crête au nord du décollage sur le point optimisé, où la vue sur le Mont Blanc était spectaculaire. La première branche vers l'ouest passait comme d'habitude par le Mont Lachat, où le but est d'arriver assez haut pour attraper le thermique "fusée".

Course de crête sur la chaîne des Aravis
Après avoir validé la balise en direction d'Annecy, nous sommes revenus vers le départ sur une crête plus au nord. Ce n'était pas vraiment plus rapide, mais quand Baptiste choisit une option, ce n'est jamais une mauvaise stratégie de le suivre ! Ensuite, la branche suivante nous a envoyés vers le sud sur la chaîne des Aravis. Il fallait choisir à quel endroit s'engager dans les Aravis, sachant que la ligne optimisée était un peu en avant. Au final, cela n'a pas fait de grande différence, car la crête fonctionnait déjà très bien, nous permettant de maintenir notre altitude même en dessous du sommet. Il a suffi de quelques virages pour prendre de la hauteur, puis d'une course de crête à quelques centaines de mètres sous les sommets.

Décision avant le Goal et succès suisses
Les deux premiers, Baptiste et Luke, étaient plus hauts mais ne pouvaient pas vraiment y rester. L'important était surtout de prendre la dernière balise assez haut si l'on voulait rester sur la ligne optimisée. Être plus bas signifiait devoir aller plus au sud avant d'affronter le vent de face pour rallier le Goal.

Dans l'ensemble, c'était une manche assez facile et très rapide avec des conditions de vol agréables. Cependant, lors d'une telle journée, il est très difficile de rattraper son retard après une petite erreur, car il y a peu d'options alternatives. La course de crête finit toujours par gagner de toute façon ! Au classement, les pilotes suisses sont bien présents aux avant-postes : Frédéric Monnet 9e, Gaëtan Gerber 11e et Pascal Blum 14e !

SRS Le Grand-Bornand 2026 - Task 4: High Speed at Mont Lachat and Top Swiss Results

A bright blue sky and cloudbases up to 2800 meters provided perfect conditions for a fast 72-kilometer task. In a race dominated by tactics and ridge racing, the Swiss shone with three pilots in the top 15, while Gin 2 defended their overall lead.

Spectacular Start and the Mont Lachat Rocket
Another good and fast day in Le Grand-Bornand! We had a 72km task today with a thermal top at 2800m and an almost completely blue sky with no real wind. Almost everybody took the start on the high ridge north of the take-off at the optimised point, where the view towards Mont Blanc was spectacular. The first leg to the west was, as usual, via Mont Lachat, where the goal is to arrive high enough to catch the "rocket" thermal.

Ridge Racing on the Aravis Chain
After tagging the turnpoint towards Annecy, we came back to the start on a more northern ridge, which was actually not really faster. But when Baptiste is choosing an option, it’s not a bad strategy to follow! After that, the next leg sent us south on the Aravis chain. A few options were possible, and you had to choose where you wanted to get into the Aravis, knowing that the optimised line was a bit out in front. I don’t think it made a big difference in the end, as the ridge was already working and allowed us to maintain our altitude even below the top. From then on, it was just a few turns to get some height and a ridge race a few hundred meters below the top of the crest.

Decisions Before Goal and Swiss Success
The top 2 pilots, Baptiste and Luke, were higher but could not really stay high on the ridge. The important thing was that the last turnpoint was way higher if we wanted to tag it on the optimised line. Going lower meant going further south before heading upwind to goal.

Overall, it was quite an easy and very fast task with pleasant flying conditions. However, on this kind of day, it’s very difficult to catch up after a little mistake. It’s also hard to get away with so few different options. Ridge racing always wins anyway! In the ranking, the Swiss pilots are strongly represented in the top 20: Frédéric Monnet 9th, Gaetan Gerber 11th, and Pascal Blum 14th!
