Der längste Task des Wettbewerbs wirbelte die Rangliste durcheinander. Während viele Favoriten früh landeten, flogen Simon Steiner und Marco Sommerfeld souverän ins Ziel und liegen nun auf Rang 3 und 4 der Gesamtwertung.

La manche la plus longue de la compétition a bouleversé le classement. Alors que de nombreux favoris ont posé tôt, Simon Steiner et Marco Sommerfeld ont volé avec maîtrise jusqu'au Goal et occupent désormais les 3ème et 4ème places du général.

The longest task of the competition shook up the rankings. While many favorites landed early, Simon Steiner and Marco Sommerfeld flew confidently into Goal and now hold the 3rd and 4th place overall.

SRS Roldanillo 2026 – Task 3: Das grosse Sieben und Schweizer Höhenflug

Mit 83 Kilometern stand heute die bislang längste und anspruchsvollste Aufgabe auf dem Programm. Doch wie schon an den Vortagen hingen die Wolken hartnäckig tief um den Startplatz «Los Tanques». Die Geduld der Piloten wurde erneut auf die Probe gestellt: Alle Zeiten mussten um 15 Minuten verschoben werden, erst ab 11:00 Uhr war der Start freigegeben.

Das Flachland funktionierte zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch nicht zuverlässig, und die ersten Piloten, die zu früh ins Tal stachen, fanden sich noch vor dem Airstart am Boden wieder. Der optimale Startpunkt lag etwas vorgelagert vor dem Hügelzug. Eine konservativere Option boten die Antennen bei La Unión mit zuverlässigerem Steigen, allerdings war der Weg von dort zum Startzylinder etwas weiter. Pünktlich zum Airstart um 12:15 Uhr brachte der thermische Zyklus das Feld jedoch rechtzeitig an die Basis.

Der erste Schenkel führte quer über das Tal und anschliessend zurück nach Roldanillo. Dieser Abschnitt erwies sich als die Schlüsselstelle des Tages. Die Thermiken zogen nicht mehr so stark durch wie gewohnt. Das Feld splittete sich in verschiedene Linien auf: direkt durchs Flache oder über die Hügel. Wer an den Hügeln zu tief ankam, wurde gnadenlos vom Talwind heruntergespült. Ich selbst konnte den Wendepunkt gerade noch markieren, bevor ich «herausgeblasen» wurde. Zum Glück gilt oft: Wo es runter geht, geht es woanders auch wieder hoch.

Mit wieder komfortablerer Höhe ging es im zweiten Teil der Aufgabe im klassischen Flachland-Stil weiter Richtung Obando: Thermik zentrieren, Gleiten, nächste Thermik. Der Rückweg Richtung Zarzal lag teilweise im Schatten, weshalb der Führungspulk das Tempo drosseln musste. In der Gruppe konnte jedoch guter Fortschritt gemacht werden. Der Weg Richtung «End of Speed» trug erstaunlich gut, und der Endanflug zur Finca Oriente in Zarzal gelang problemlos.

Da einige Top-Piloten heute frühzeitig landen mussten («abstanden»), hat sich das Gesamtklassement zugunsten der Schweizer verschoben. Simon Steiner und Marco Sommerfeld konnten sich hervorragend platzieren und liegen nun auf den Rängen 3 und 4 der Overall-Wertung. Bei voraussichtlich noch zwei verbleibenden Tasks ist für das Schweizer Team alles drin.

SRS Roldanillo 2026 – Manche 3 : Grand ménage et envolée suisse

Avec 83 kilomètres, la tâche la plus longue et la plus exigeante à ce jour était au programme. Mais comme les jours précédents, les nuages restaient tenaces autour du décollage de « Los Tanques ». La patience des pilotes a de nouveau été mise à l'épreuve : tous les horaires ont été décalés de 15 minutes, et le décollage n'a été autorisé qu'à partir de 11h00.

La plaine ne fonctionnait pas encore vraiment à ce moment-là, et les premiers pilotes partis trop tôt se sont retrouvés au sol avant même le start aérien. Le point de départ optimal se situait un peu en avant de la chaîne de collines. Une option plus conservatrice aux antennes de La Unión offrait des ascendances plus fiables, mais le chemin vers le cylindre de départ était un peu plus long. Juste à temps pour le start à 12h15, le cycle thermique a permis au peloton de monter au plafond.

La première branche traversait la vallée pour revenir ensuite vers Roldanillo. Cette section s'est révélée être le point clé de la journée. Les thermiques n'étaient plus aussi puissants. Le groupe s'est divisé : direct par la plaine ou par les collines. Ceux qui arrivaient trop bas sur les reliefs se faisaient impitoyablement rincer par la brise. J'ai moi-même pu valider la balise de justesse avant de me faire « souffler ». Heureusement, dans la Valle, là où ça descend, ça remonte souvent ailleurs.

Avec une altitude plus confortable, la seconde partie de la manche s'est poursuivie dans un style classique de plaine vers Obando : thermique, transition, thermique. Le retour vers Zarzal étant un peu à l'ombre, le groupe de tête a dû ralentir. Cependant, la progression en groupe est restée efficace. La route vers la fin de section chronométrée portait étonnamment bien, et le glide final vers la Finca Oriente à Zarzal s'est fait sans encombre.

Comme certains top pilotes ont dû poser prématurément aujourd'hui, le classement général a évolué en faveur des Suisses. Simon Steiner et Marco Sommerfeld sont désormais excellemment placés, occupant respectivement les 3ème et 4ème rangs du classement général. Avec probablement deux manches restantes, tous les espoirs sont permis pour l'équipe suisse.

SRS Roldanillo 2026 – Task 3: The Long Haul and Swiss Success

With 83 kilometers, today featured the longest and most demanding task so far. But just like on previous days, clouds hung stubbornly low around the "Los Tanques" launch. The pilots' patience was tested once again: all times had to be pushed back by 15 minutes, with launch only opening at 11:00 AM.

The flatlands weren't really working yet at that time, and the first pilots who pushed into the valley too early found themselves on the ground before the airstart. The optimal waiting position was slightly in front of the ridge. A more conservative option at the antennas near La Unión offered more reliable lift, but the distance to the start cylinder was slightly longer. Just in time for the 12:15 PM airstart, the thermal cycle brought the field up to base.

The first leg led across the valley and then back to Roldanillo. This section proved to be the crux of the day. The thermals weren't as strong or consistent as usual. The field split into different lines: directly through the flats or along the hills. Those who arrived too low at the hills were mercilessly flushed down by the wind. I managed to tag the turnpoint just in time before getting "blown out." Fortunately, in the Valle, where there is sink, there is usually lift somewhere else.

With a more comfortable altitude, the second part of the task continued in classic flatland style towards Obando: thermal, glide, thermal. The return leg towards Zarzal was partly in shadow, forcing the lead gaggle to slow down. However, good progress was made within the group. The route towards the End of Speed floated surprisingly well, and the final glide to Finca Oriente in Zarzal was trouble-free.

Since several top pilots bombed out today, the overall standings have shifted in favor of the Swiss. Simon Steiner and Marco Sommerfeld are now in excellent positions, holding 3rd and 4th place overall. With likely two tasks remaining, everything is possible for the Swiss team.
