Swiss Cup Weissenstein: Saturday is cancelled, decision for Sunday by Friday 13:00

Jörg Ewald 14. May 2026 Swiss Cup Weissenstein 2026
In short: No chance for a task on Saturday, so we cancel the day. For Sunday we see a chance for a task, and will make the final decision tomorrow, Friday, at 13:00.

In detail: Saturday has not changed much from yesterday's forecasts: Rain, even snow down to 1000m, in the morning, lots of clouds and up to 50 km/h of north-westerly winds at 2000 m. The improvement we had hoped for didn't materialize, there is no chance for a task, so we cancel the day.

On Sunday, we have conflicting factors: On the plus side: Few clouds and lots of sunshine in the morning, high instability and nearly no wind, the risk of over-development and rain has decreased since yesterday. On the negative side: very wet ground after all the rain of the previous days, the weak winds don't help with drying that up, and the high instability leads to low clouds from early on (which should rise to about 2000 m around noon). The main question will be how thick the high clouds will be that will move into the area in the afternoon. That will decide between smooth thermals and no thermals.

Our experts at Meteo Swiss are moderately optimistic, and the local organizers from DC Weissenstein around Philipp Hänggi are willing to take the chance, so we will make the final call about Sunday tomorrow, Friday, at 13:00, after another consultation with Meteo Swiss.
