Task 2 - 130km
Big task today. Due to the better XC conditions, an FAI of over 130 km is set. First, we head north, then straight to the flatlands in the southwest, and finally back to Saint-André.
Benjamin and Alfredo stay with the leading gaggle up north. But there’s the first crux: wind and a narrow valley with little lift make it difficult to fly fast. Joel sees the opportunity, flies high, and overtakes the leading group.
Heading southwest again, the alpine pumping creates a 20 km/h headwind, which is usual for nil-wind conditions. Arriving in the flatlands, the day is fully on and it’s lifty everywhere.
After a fast 100 km in the task, the pilots start to make small mistakes while Joel pushes hard and low. It pays off, as he arrives in goal first!
Overall, a spicy and scenic flight, demonstrating the potential of Saint-André!
