XC Diary – Wind, Blue Skies and Team Spirit
Day three started windy, with a completely blue sky. Only Noah decided to take off, but after just a few kilometers he was already on the ground. For everyone else it turned into an unexpected day of work and recovery.
The following morning didn’t look much better, though the wind had eased. Jerome and Paddy took the chance to practice flying as a team. Chrischi managed to get a bit further, while Pit — who went for a second launch — finally hit the right timing. Conditions turned in his favor and could have carried him much farther. In the end, however, he chose to land, as it didn’t seem possible to stretch the flight much beyond roughly 350 km again.
Today the sky once again looked much like the day before: blue, tricky, and demanding. Jerome and Paddy pushed on together and made it the furthest as a team, though progress was painfully slow. With no cloud markers, moving forward was a real challenge. In the end, Jerome missed a key thermal and had to land. Paddy soon followed, partly to keep the logistics simple — and in any case, the day wasn’t going to deliver more than just under 400 km.
