XC Ligafliegen vom Niesen

Michael Sigel 12. September 2022 XC Ligafliegen

Distanzen heute:
Michael Sigel – 174km
Chrigel Erne – 166km
Marcel Mock – 139km
Gilles Wachsmuth – 114km
Corina Beerli – 110km
Pit Vollenweider – 110km
Corina Heldstab – 108km

***************************
The weather forecast was pretty good, respectively it promised (probably) one of the last good XC days of the season. Jura, flatland and BeO looked good. On Saturday evening there was therefore a zoom meeting to discuss the weather and possible routes. Roughly the Pic Chaussy was chosen, then either over the Stockhorn range (to possibly jump into the lowlands) or the Niesen range and then on towards Pilatus.
When we then arrive on Sunday at 10 am on the Niesen, the mountain station is still above the clouds, a short time later we are fogged in. Nevertheless, everyone got ready quickly and when the clouds opened up at 10:30, we set off.
The sneeze chain went well, even if the base was low. At Albristhorn it was already 2500m, so the steering traverse was no problem. Although there were no more clouds here, it went reasonably well, also because there was a clear east wind. Special were the many griffon vultures, which reliably marked almost every thermal. South America Feeling in the Bernese Oberland From Col du Pillon to Pic Chaussy there was a north wind, which made the whole thing a bit uncomfortable. I then chose the panoramic route via Rougement and Stockhorn chain. The standard route via the Niesen chain was certainly faster. The western midland looked bad (contrary to the forecasts), so I flew further east via Blueme. Here there were again clearly more clouds. It was interesting that Chrigel Erne also crossed from Niesen to Blueme. Unfortunately there were a lot of clouds and a low base at the Schratteflue, so I set the turning point there. The way back was then also everything else than simple and went at least with me only with much scratching and patience. Apparently the sun position is probably no longer ideal for these cretes.
Nevertheless, it was a great round for this time of year.
