World championship task 5
Today, we flew the 5th task of this World Championship.
With the wind forecasted to strengthen later in the day, the committee opted for a relatively short task: 60 km optimized.
The start was a bit tricky, as everything collapsed five minutes before the window opened. But conditions quickly improved after tagging B1 in the mountains. We then crossed the plain to reach B2 in the south, despite a small upwind leg, before heading back north to grab the last turnpoint along the mountains and then glide to goal.
Between B1 and B2, two very different options appeared: one straight along the line, and another further north to chase the clouds. In the end, both groups came back together at the last turnpoint.
The lead group set off toward goal a little low, but was eventually overtaken from above by the second group, which found a better line and stronger lift just before the final leg.
In the end, everyone made it to goal with plenty of altitude to spare, thanks to a strong convergence line on the last stretch.
All four team pilots made goal in solid positions, earning us valuable points that help us climb steadily in the rankings.
The next two days look a bit wetter… to be continued!
