Etwas verspätet melde ich mich aus Caico, Brasilien. Gestern Abend sind wir alle gut hier im Sertao angekommen und nach einem kurzen Briefing und späteren Abendessen sind wir wie immer ziemlich früh ins Bett gegangen (deshalb schreibe ich auch erst jetzt).
Mit einem reduzierten Team sind wir nach Brasilien gereist:
Dino Scheidegger
Dominic Rohner
Sebastian Benz
Michael Sigel
Einmal mehr ist unser Ziel, einen offiziellen Weltrekord zu machen. Dieser liegt zur Zeit bei 609km (Free Distrance) / 556.8km (Straight distance to a declared goal) – beide aufgestellt von Sebastien Kayrouz in den USA. Zweifellos wird die Aufgabe nicht einfach, aber wir sind motiviert, unser Bestes zu geben!
Einmal mehr dürfen wir bei unserem Unternehmen auf die professionelle Hilfe und Organisation von Fly with Andy zählen. Zusammen haben wir besprochen, was die Vor-und Nachteile der vierschiedenen Orte hier in der Umgebung sind. Insgesamt scheint aber Caico weiterhin der beste Ort zu sein. Eventuell hat Tacima mehr Potenzial, ist aber wegen fehlenden Landemöglichkeiten auf den ersten 100km deutlich gefährlicher bei viel Wind.

Heute haben wir bereits einen ersten Versuch gewagt. Aufstehen um 4:45, frühstücken und um 5:30 zum Flugfeld fahren. Doch obwohl die potenzielle Distanz immerhin 450km verspricht (Windprognose), scheint es kein guter Tag zu sein. Denn um 6:45 steigt noch immer kein Vogel und auch die Thermikwolken bilden sich nur ganz vereinzelt. Domi und ich versuchen es trotzdem, kommen dank viel Wind (am Morgen hat es oft deutlich mehr Wind als später am Tag) ordentlich hoch und gleiten los nach Westen. Zuerst scheint die Luft wie tot zu sein, immerhin gleiten wir aber mit schnellen 85km/h im Trim Speed dahin. Nach 10km dann die ersten Thermikblasen, aber noch immer hat es keine Wolken und auch die Thermik zieht nicht richtig durch. Mehr schlecht als recht halten wir uns in der Luft, müssen aber nach 30km doch landen. Sebi kommt etwas weiter, Dino musste schon früh landen.

Mittlerweile sind wir wieder zurück im Hotel. Leider sehen die Windprognosen auch für die nächsten Tage nicht besonders gut aus. Aber mal schauen!

Overall, however, Caico still seems to be the best place. Possibly Tacima has more potential, but is much more dangerous with a lot of wind due to the lack of landing possibilities on the first 100km.

But although the potential distance promises 450km (wind forecast), it doesn't seem to be a good day. Because at 6:45 still no bird climbs and also the thermal clouds form only very sporadically. Domi and I try it anyway, thanks to a lot of wind (in the morning there is often much more wind than later in the day) we get up properly and glide off to the west. At first the air seems to be dead, but at least we glide along at a fast 85km/h in trim speed. After 10km we get the first thermal bubbles, but still there are no clouds and the thermals don't really come through. More bad than good we stay in the air, but after 30km we have to land. Sebi gets a little further, Dino had to land early.

In the meantime we are back at the hotel. Unfortunately the wind forecasts don't look very good for the next days. But let's have a look!
