So, das war’s dann mit der Berichterstattung von unserem Weltrekordversuch hier in Brasilien. Es war einmal mehr eine tolle Zeit hier im Sertao, mit tollen Flügen und unvergesslichen Sonnenuntergängen. Leider war der Wind niemals stark genug, um auch nur annähernd in Schlagdistanz zum Weltrekord von über 600km zu kommen. Manchmal hatte es sogar so wenig Wind, dass man riesige Dreiecke fliegen konnte. Das 270 km Dreieck von Sebi ist vermutlich das grösste jemals geflogene FAI Dreieck im Flachland. Dazu ist zu sagen, dass Yael ihren eigenen Weltrekord um nur 7km verpasst hat. Sie ist und bleibt die einzige Frau, die jemals über 500km geflogen ist – und das nun sogar schon zwei Mal. Sebi und Rico haben mich eingeholt und dann sind wir mit tollen Bedingungen richtung ersten WP nach 110 km. Auf dem 2. Schenkel mehr Gegenwind als erwartet, die Thermik schwächelte etwas und ein Gebirge hätte auch umflogen werden sollen; insgesamt mühsame Aussichten. Deshalb am Funk entschieden, auf one way umzustellen. Nach dem Mittag liefs mir nicht so gut und ich wurde ziemlich müde. Eine Stunde später war ich dann wieder motiviert und mit dem Vorwärtskommen gings auch wieder besser. Leider hatte Rico ein paar Km nördlich von mir eine gerissene Stabiloleine, Sebi, der mit ihm zusammen flog ging auch landen. Wusste dann lange nicht, ob ich solidarisch auch landen soll oder mit schlechtem Gewissen weiterfliegen. Bin aber ein paar mal zu oft runterspiralt in den letzten Wochen. Dann habe ich aber einen Brasilianischem Piloten aufgeholt und habe mit ihm zusammen ein paar Thermiken gedreht, bis er nach SW abgebogen ist. Deshalb ging es zuerst mit Seitenwind nach Westen, dann runter in den Süden und dann wieder nach Caico. Nach über zehn Stunden Flug landete Sebastian fast wieder in Caico, auch Rico konnte ein tolles FAI fliegen. Das ist insofern toll, da so die Fahrzeiten im Rückholer ziemlich kurz sind. Der Tag startete mit viel Wind und auch ziemlich viele Wolken. Dementsprechend zurückhaltend waren wir auf dem Startfeld am Morgen früh. Doch Yael machte es vor, startete um 6:40 und zog davon. Beeindruckt sind dann auch die anderen gleich hinterher. Es hatte so viel Wind wie noch nie und im 2/3 Gas hatte ich sogar kurzzeitig über 100km/h drauf. Bis Patu war die Thermik gut und alle sind gut durchgekommen. Leider musste Yael dann aber alleine landen und hatte dann mit sehr viel Wind am Boden zu kämpfen. Für die anderen ging es weiter Richtung Quixada. Während Domi und ich zusammen flogen, war Rico mit Simon Zwiebel unterwegs, während Dino und Sebastian auf eigenen Routen flogen. Trotz abnehmenden Windes waren wir alle ziemlich zügig unterwegs. Dominic und ich hatten dann nach Quixada eine grosse Baustelle und Sebi zog südlich an uns vorbei. Bei Livramento (kurz vor dem Plateau) dann das Highlight: ein mega Dust Devil. Domi und ich sind ca. 400m über Grund rein und wurden nicht enttäuscht: sehr turbulent und bis 8m/s Steigen. Dummerweise war es zwischen 16 und 17 Uhr so labil in der Region, dass es dann grossflächig abschattete und sogar leichten Regen gab. Deshalb gab es für Sebastian, Dominic und mich auch keine Thermik mehr auf dem Plateau und wir mussten nach 490km bereits 1 Stunde zu früh landen. Rico und Dino hatten deutlich mehr Glück, waren etwas später dran und konnten den Flug bis zur letzten Minute ausreizen und so auf 512km und 506km fliegen. Was für ein Flugtag! Für Yael, Dominic und mich lief es aber einigermassen gut und wir konnten schön vor der abtrocknenden Luftmasse nach Westen fliegen. Das ging relativ gut, bis dann auch bei uns die Thermik merklich bockiger wurde und der Rückenwind aussetzte nach 250km. Nach einer langen Gleitpassage hat Yael die rettende Thermik leider nicht mehr erwischt und musste landen. Für Dominic und mich ging es weiter, zum Teil mit 60km/h im Vollgas… Aber egal, unser Ziel war es, bis in den Sonnenuntergang zu fliegen. Am Schluss des Fluges ging es über ziemlich verlassene Gegenden und eine Aussenlandung wäre vermutlich mit ziemlich langen Fussmärschen verbunden gewesen. Zum Glück waren wir hoch genug und konnten am Schluss nach Sonnenuntergang und 450km an der Hautstrasse landen. Rico hat es auf einer etwas nördlichen Route auch noch auf 328km geschafft. Heute waren Dominic und ich auf der Heimreise. Währenddessen haben die anderen Schweizer einen weiteren Versuch gestartet. Gemütlicher Flugtag heute im Sertao auf einer für mich neuen Route Richtung Westen und Südwesten. Sowohl die Prognosen als auch ein Blick in den Himmel bestätigten heute, dass der schwache Wind deutlich aus östlicher Richtung wehte als gewöhnlich. Deswegen schatteten die Wolken, die sich immer als erstes im Lee des Hügelzuges östlich von Caico bilden, unser Startgebiet ab. Ein Pilot, sowie auch unsere Weltrekordlerin Yael, nach dem anderen fanden nach dem Windenschlepp keine Aufwinde und so landete man nach 5 Minuten in der Luft wieder auf der Schlepppiste ein um ohne grossen Zeitverlust einen zweiten oder dritten Versuch zu wagen. Irgenwann kamen dann Tilen und Sebi weg und nach meinem Tow zeigten mir diese beiden sowie zahlreiche Urubus den Weg Richtung Himmel. Die ersten drei vier Thermiken waren gemächlich, dann erwischte ich eine nicht und kam mit Glück vor einem der zahlreichen kleinen Wasserspeicher wieder an die Basis. Bereits beim Frühstück haben wir eine mögliche Route Richtung Westen diskutiert, allerdings flog ich von nun an einfach mit dem spärlichen Ostwind den besten Thermiken nach. Irgendwann sah ich dann Tilen Ceglar vom Slovenischen Team hinter mir und höher unter derselben Wolke zentrieren. Zwei weitere Thermiken weiter vereinten wir uns dann und flogen mit schwachem Ostwind und später sogar mit Bise, also Nordostwind, von Aufwind zu Aufwind, wobei ich definitiv besser war, im Finden der starken Sinkzonen zwischen den Thermiken. Als dann die Windunterstützung noch bescheidener wurde, beschlossen wir, in Sao Joao do Rio do Peixe auf dem grünen Rasen des Fussballfeldes zu landen, um mit flywithand-Fahrer Pedro gemütlich nach Caico zurückzufahren. Sebi hat es bis am Abend durchgezogen und hat es bis über 400km geschafft. Insgesamt wars heute ein spannender Flugtag mit gemütlicher Thermik und schwachem Ostwind. Es hatte einige Wolken und so war der Anfang für Yael, Michael und Dominic relativ einfach. Leider mussten die anderen drei Piloten bald mal landen. Das wird wohl immer so sein: insbesondere am frühen Morgen ist die Thermik sehr schwach und es braucht auch immer etwas Glück, die ersten beiden Stunden in der Luft zu bleiben. Klar, man könnte auch später starten wenn die Thermik zuverlässig ist – aber dann hat man halt schon 50 bis 100km verschenkt. Leider hatte Yael gestern auch noch etwas Pech und musste kurz nach Patu landen. Dominic und ich sahen den Tag als Training und Teambuilding an und haben dann spätestens ab 9 Uhr richtig Gas gegeben. Zwischen den Thermiken sind wir eigentlich nur Vollgas geflogen. Interessant war, dass es bis km 250 vermutlich zu 7/8 bedeckt war – trotzdem ist es manchmal mit bis zu 5m/s integriert gestiegen.
