Bericht von Dominik: Heute wurde ein 43km One-Way Task Richtung Südwesten ausgeschrieben. Die Winddummis liessen zu Beginn jedoch nicht auf allzu gute Thermik hoffen, da keiner den Startplatz überhöhen konnte. So waren dann auch kurz vor dem Start die Höhenunterschiede zwischen den Piloten ziemlich gross. Michi und Joel, erwischten den Start gut und waren von Anfang an im Spitzenpulk vorne dabei. Tim und ich hingegen, befanden uns beim Startzeitpunkt ca. 700 Meter tiefer und mussten erst mal Thermik finden um dann den anderen Pulks hinterher zu gasen. Wir konnten kontinuierlich aufholen und schlossen ca. 8 Kilometer vor dem Ziel auf die Zielgruppe auf, die sich zu diesem Zeitpunkt tief unter uns befand. So konnte ich mit den ersten 10 Piloten Richtung Ziellinie davongasen währen Michael eine tiefe Linie versuchte, die jedoch leider nicht aufging. Joel versuchte es ebenfalls tief, versenkte sich dann jedoch in der ESS ca. 1.5km vor der Ziellinie. Ich verliere ca. eine Minute auf den ersten, Tim ca. 3 Minuten. Für morgen sieht das Wetter ziemlich gut aus und wir hoffen auf einen tollen letzten Task.

Auf gestern haben sich die Bedingungen krass geändert, es hatte viel Wind aus Norden und war ausgesprochen stabil. Der geplante 56 Km-Lauf wurde dann nach einer guten halben Stunde gestoppt bzw. gecancelled, weil man kaum über 1600m kam und es in den Tälern deutlich zu viel Wind für einen vernünftigen Lauf hatte. Dass es heute nicht fliegt wussten wir zum Glück schon gestern bei der pilots party... Morgen sieht es ebenfalls mässig aus, Samstag offenbar etwas besser.

Joel muss Schirme vermessen und hat deshalb kaum Zeit, einen Bericht zu schreiben... Bericht von Montag von Tim: Wegen dem Nordwind starten wir vom unteren Startplatz. Es ist ein 93km Task ausgeschrieben mit Goal auf einer Hochebene weit im Westen. Noch vor dem Racestart bilden sich über dem Startplatz Wolken, welche zuerst stark nach Gewitter aussehen, danach jedoch kein Problem mehr sind. Die erste Boje war einfach zu holen, doch bereits auf dem Weg zu der zweiten Boje wurde es schwierig. Die Vordersten fliegen nach der Boje tief ins Luv, wobei ein grosser Teil der Gruppe absteht. So auch Dominik und Michael, Joel kann sich knapp retten und ist ab da zuvorderst dabei. Ich kann rechtzeitig reagieren und fliege südlich über den Startplatz zur Boje und komme hoch an. Ab da war es "huere geil" mit Rückenwind bis ins Goal. Leider fliege ich knapp an der zweitletzten Boje vorbei, muss umkehren und die Gruppe ziehen lassen. Joel kommt als 3. ins Ziel. Bericht von Dienstag von Dominik: Heute lernten wir den anderen, grösseren Startplatz kennen, wo wir mit zügigem Aufwind begrüsst wurden. Es wird ein 75km Task gesetzt und der Wind frischt auf. Die Winddummies melden Level 2 und schon bald erhielten wir von einem Vorflieger eine Fullstall-Demonstration, welche zu unserem Erstaunen am Notschirm endete. Der Pilot landete sanft auf der Krete... Das Ganze war aber 100% Pilotenfehler und der Start wurde planmässig durchgeführt. Vom Start weg stieg es in einem Schlauch mit 4 m/s bis an die Basis auf 3000m, 1500m über dem Startplatz. Zuerst ging es der Krete entlang Richtung Norden, dann gegen Südwesten ins Flache, wo wir in einem Hammerschlauch mit 6.5 m/s völlig ruhig 2000 Meter Höhe tankten. Danach ging es perfekt zur zweitletzten Boje, wo die Führungsgruppe mit Tim und Michael eine schlechte Linie erwischte und zu tief unter dem Startplatz ankam. Joel und ich waren kurz dahinter und konnten dank der vorderen Gruppe im Gleiten weiter rechts ausholen und gut 300m mehr rausholen, was uns einen schnellen Anschluss vor dem Startplatz ermöglichte. Joel kommt als vierter ins Ziel, ich in den ersten 20. Michael verliert 7 Minuten, Tim ca. 13 Minuten. Overall ist Joel jetzt auf dem 2. Platz!

Heute kein Task wegen zu viel Wind, ab morgen soll es viel besser werden.

Kopaonik ist das grösste Skigebiet in Serbien, das Dorf ist sehr touristisch und besteht praktisch nur aus Skiresorts. Hier auf 1700 m ist es angenehm kühl, in Belgrad war es noch 38°! Gestartet wird normalerweise vom 100 m tiefer gelegenen Startplatz, das Goal ist offenbar meistens unten im Tal um Raška. In Kopaonik findet übrigens nächstes Jahr die EM statt. Leider können wir heute wegen starkem Wind und Gewitter nicht fliegen, morgen ist der erste Task geplant.

Today and tomorrow we have too much wind (it looks calm at the moment, but it will start soon). Thursday cold front. In our area last parts of Föhn (especially at Chur and north of Chur it will still be dry in the morning). Friday is the big Question. If you look to the meteoblue-maps you see, what I mean: We are inside the alps and it is possible, that we have sunshine. But the chance for a valid task is not high. One of the problems is the wind. We would have to take off at S12. There a task is only possible with very good laps-rate - but we will have a good laps rate :-). In short: 25% chance for small a task Friday afternoon. The organization did decide to stop the BPO. Prize-giving at 11:45. PLS RETURN YOUR TRAIN-CARD - YOU GET 10.-.

Wednesday: Föhn. The wind is too strong to fly. Wednesday is cancelled. Lunchbags will be delivered at 9:00 at the tent (HQ). At Lukmanier we have a saoring-site (5 min left of the pass), but I would imagine, that it is too strong there too. It will be dry, partially nice weather - good for walking in the mountains. You have got a map with some proposals on registration. An other possibility is "Pinut", a easy "Klettersteig" above B26. Thursday: Still a litte bit Föhn in the East, rain in the rest of Switzerland (Disentis will be rainy). The day s not ! cancelled yet. There is still mountain walking to do, or as I said, there are nice bathes to visit: "Therme Vals" is worldwide known (you have to book), "Bogn Sedrun" is nice (and cheaper). Friday: Small chance to do a task, as soon the cloud-base rises above take off. Or in the afternoon from S12. We are here to fly! I know, the chance to have a task on Friday is only 25% - but this is not nothing. I have problems to decide 3 days in advance. Weather reports are normally wrong :-) The organization will decide tomorrow at 10:30 about the further days. If we stop the competition, we will make the prize giving ceremony at 11:30. As much, as the wind has been worse as expected yesterday, as much it has been better today. Difficult to say, where the difference has been. Probably the laps rate (today good from the bottom) and the direction (a bit more south). The coulds (base at 3400) did not grow really because of the light Föhn-effect in this area. We had an early start (ground at 10:00, air at 11:00) and a very nice flight to Flims. Most pilots reached goal. Weather report follows towards the evening (at 17:00 the "12 o clock - run" is out with the latest calculations).

Similar wind prognosis, but better laps-rate in the morning. Maybe we can realize a small task before the main wind gets too strong. We go up at 8:00 (including lunch and croissants) Briefing at 9:00 at Caischavedra It will climb earlier as on the last too days.

Today the wind has been e little bit stronger as expected. All locals where astonished about the situation. Fortunately the thermals where (as expected) not "hard", so flying has been possible. Before the air-start we had long discussions in our new "in air safety committee" (Robert, Constant, Marco Vergari and myself). Finally we decided to go on. For me it has been "Level 2" at many places and many pilots did report the same. But nowhere someone reported "Level 3". The wind has been limit, but normally not turbulent. But to be honest: I could not enjoy this flight a lot: or I had to fly actively myselfe, or I was watching other pilots in intresting situation. But in goal everybody seemed to be happy with the decision to do the task. Tomorrow Tuesday: I asked MeteoSchweiz one simple question: How is the day compared to today? The answer: Same wind, but a little bit more from the south. Furthermore I checked the possibility to go to the Tessin. But: In the south Tessin it will be stable, and maybe a cloud cover appears at 4000m at noon. In the north Tessin: There would be a possibility at Cari (+46° 30' 20.48", +8° 49' 7.84", see the link). The locals would be Ok to host us, and the cable car as well. But: There is wind as well (see the forecast). And: We have nothing: No turnpoints (you would have to enter them manually), no transport... I think it is better, if we prepare everything before we go there with 130 pilots. Therefore: We try here again, but one hour earlier! Cable car at 8:00 Briefing Caischavedra 9:00 I hope, that we can manage a task to Flims or Schiers again. PS: No croissants, the backery in Chur does not deliver them that early. Sorry. Wednesday the wind will be too strong. Thursday: Bad weather. Friday: Improvement, but it is too early to make an estimation for a possible task.

Today has been a nice day for flying, better as forecasted. Smooth thermals because of low laps rate in lower levels, cloudbase 3300m. Partially the SW has been remarkable at 2500m, 12 kn at 3000m. As said on the briefing, the thunderstorms in different areas around us did influence the wind systems in Disentis. Unfortunately the task has been stopped because of valley wind. Tomorrow we have better weather in general, but in our area it will be similar with a little bit more SW (15kn at 3000m). Tuesday again similar with again more SW (20kn). The laps rate in lower level is "bad", therefor I expect calm thermals as today. Probably we can fly to Schiers (L30). Please note, that the weather-maps are always "twin" - for Monday and Tuesday. Tomorrow, Monday: 9:00 Lunch and Cable Car. 10:00 Briefing Caischavedra. Early take off.

Difficult day, but we are in a good area. As soon thermals start, clouds will develop. We are influences by dryer air, because the air dries out a little bit. Wind: Low in lower levels, 10kn at 3000m from SW. Northerly around Chur in lower levels. Valley wind system. Question is: Do we have valley winds at Disentis in the afternoon? Clouds: Middle Cloud cover in the morning, should disappear at noon. Development of clouds with the thermal activity. Cludbase 2800, rising to 3000, inner Alps higher We go up 9:15, Briefing Caischavedra 10:15.

Saturday: Stable conditions with nice flight and training task to Brigels and back. Thunderstorm in the late afternoon, as predicted, but coming from west (we thought, that it will develop first in the east because of higher instability). During the evening we should get some rain, cloudy morning. If the prognosis are correct, we get a taskable window between 12 and 15 hours. Winds will be from SW (but no Föhn), landing maybe in Illanz. We go up at 9:15 (Lunchbags at cable car station) Briefing Caischavedra 10:15 Maybe we have to wait there one hour, but we should not miss the short taskable window
