Weather report Saturday, meeting for training task 9:15 at HQ
Martin Scheel,
7. August 2015
Saturday The day starts pretty sunny, cumulus will rise up (some more as we like) with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Probably the first rain will be at 15h. Wind should not be a problem. We will make a training task. Meeting 9:15 at Headquarter - to get map and cable-car-ticket Important: - No upload from waypoints (Ulric arrives later)! - You can download them yourself. Sunday Partially sunny, but partially rainy. Problem can be the wind. But I see a certain chance to make a small task to Flims.

Wyss zum vierten Mal Gleitschirm-Schweizermeister
Martin Scheel,
6. August 2015

Martin Scheel,
6. August 2015
Nice weather with some high clouds. After a bit a slow start, we will have good thermals with a base above 3500m. Wind will be weak to moderate from southerly directions. Conditions should be better as yesterday (see the report from yesterday). Briefing 10:30 at Galvera take off.

Meteo and infos for Fiesch and Disentis til Saturday
Martin Scheel,
5. August 2015
I ordered all charts chronologically - I hope you find your infos :-) Thursday Fiesch ******************** We still have a southerly airflow, but hopefully with better thermals ... It is a good day! Briefing 10:30 at Galvera Take Off Friday Disentis ***************** After a bit a slow start, it looks like a very good day! It is a free flying day. We meet at 9:50 at the cable car station (the cable car leaves at 10:05). I hope to find some locals to join you and to bring some waypointmaps. Saturday Disentis ******************** Unfortunately the super-weather is gone, but I'm pretty sure, that we can do some hours of thermal flying, maybe some distance along the thermal-freeway towards east. You can get your waypointmap and cable car ticket at 9:00 at the headquarter. It is too early to make a proper timing, when we go up, but probably all normal at 10. More infos tomorrow at 18h.

93km in rough conditions / rankings / photos / + report
Martin Scheel,
5. August 2015
We had a task to Riederalp - Grimsel - Nessel - Chäserstatt - Goal, 93km. It has been very rough around Bellwald to Münster, especially up to 2500m because of a pretty strong SW-wind (25km/h). This wind has been more like a valley-wind. The last turnpoint at Chäserstatt has been in the downwash from south of the Binntal (this was the reason, that we cancelled after the first pilots reported that). The reason for these special conditions has been, that at 3000m it has been warmer in the north than at the south of the alps. This produced a situation of Föhn, even if the pressure difference on the ground has been zero. See the charts we have got from MeteoSchweiz. All photos on the link below.

Weather Report Wednesday morning
Martin Scheel,
5. August 2015
Nice weather, Some cumulus, in the afternoon 3500m or higher Thermals are probably a little bit weekend by advection from warmer air. But in our area it will be good. Wind is our "thing" today (I show 3 models: COSMO2, COSMO7 and WRF). Good flyable in our area, but we are a bit "jammed" to the normal route. Maybe we can go to Furkapass. Briefing 10:30 at Galvera Take Off

Weather Report. Briefing 10:30 at Take Off Galvera
Martin Scheel,
4. August 2015
Tomorrow we have nice weather with only some flat cumulus (at 3500m or higher). Moderate winds from SW, W, with a bit of a Föen effect at Simplon and to Visp. Briefing 10:30 at Take Off Galvera. We think at a task in moderate length, because of the wind.

Tuesday: 45km Task + Rankings
Martin Scheel,
4. August 2015
After some waiting we started the race (Bettmeralp - Grimsel - NIederwald - Landing at Gluringen) at about 11:30. Only a litte bit of sun made it difficult to climb, about half of the pilots did not get above take off hight and landet soon at Fiesch. The rest could get up and made it in to the Goms, about 20 made goal.

Weather Report Tuesday morning: Briefing 10:00 at Take Off
Martin Scheel,
4. August 2015
I think, that we will have first possible showers at around 11, 11:30 (probably it will stay dry), then it should be nicer until 15h. But: The wind will strengthen in that period. Probably we should not wait until 12, because we will get in to the wind at 14h.... Difficult... Briefing will be at 10:00 at Take Off.

Mario Pfister did land at Emmanuelle - he will get points accordingly. This is not yet shown in the rankings.
Swiss Open Fiesch
Weather Report and Info Tuesday.
Martin Scheel,
3. August 2015
A (weak) cold front will pass at the north side of the alps. The models show very different influence and timing of this. North of the alps, the cols air will be already in the morning. The question is, when does it gets up the Rhone ... Probably it arrives here at Fiesch around 14h (same time it will arrive over the Grimsel and over the Schöllenen to Andermatt - therefor it is not a good idea to fly to Andermatt...) COSMO2: Rain at 12h COSMO7: Rain about at 15h ALARO: Almost no rain until late afternoon WRF: No rain until late afternoon, or non at all... There is a (small) chance for a valid task. Next Info: Tomorrow morning, before 8:00 with SMS and on this website. If we go up: Briefing at take off Galvera at 10:00 !!

Swiss Open: Stef Wyss wins 67 km Task + Rankings + all Photos
Martin Scheel,
2. August 2015
There was a bit more moisture around than we thought, but when the race started at 13:20 (airstart 14:00), it was just beautiful to fly. At least for the eyes - some pilots probably think, that the beginning has been pretty tricky because of the weak thermals. The race went to Münster (Galmihornhütte) and back to the take-off, then to Blitzingen in the middle of the valley, then to Brig and after a small turn to Bellwald, to the landing at Fiesch. 67 km in beautiful conditions! The French and the Swiss did well - we will see in the ranking :-) All pics are at the link below.

Swiss Open: Weather report Sunday morning
Martin Scheel,
2. August 2015
Yesterday we where astonished about the weather report. It showed very nice weather, already early in the morning - which is almost impossible after all that rain... Today the wether reports look more like suspected. Some clouds in the morning and clouds again in the afternoon. But it looks still good for a task! - moderate thermals - cloud base rising up to 2800m - winds should be pretty weak from northerly and easterly directions Briefing 11:00 at Restaurant Kühboden
